Our Approach to Concrete Construction
Our client approached us for concrete solutions for their newly built shed in Aldgate. They needed concrete for the internal shed slab, surrounding paths, and entry/exit aprons.
We kicked off the project by chatting with the client. It was essential to understand their vision. We discussed levels, layout, and stormwater provisions to ensure everything was clear from the start.
Identifying Challenges
During our discussions, we spotted some overlooked issues. Stormwater management along the dead side needed attention. Additionally, we had to rework the pad to allow for proper drainage in the external aprons. We quickly installed stormwater provisions and excavated the pad to meet the project requirements. We aimed to execute the job as effectively as possible. For materials, we turned to Tradelink, who supplied us with everything needed for the stormwater plumbing and drains.
Site Preparation
We tidied up the existing rubble using our excavator. After that, we compacted the area with a mechanical wacker. Concrete sleeper retaining walls had already been installed by others, which set a solid foundation for our work.
Staging the Project
We organized the job into stages. The main shed slab and side path were our first priorities. We installed a Forticon plastic membrane and SL82 reinforcing, supported on bar chairs, supplied by Bianco Reinforcing.
Concrete arrived bright and early from Adbri. We poured the shed slab and paths smoothly, using our concrete pump for efficiency. The shed received a nice, smooth machine finish, while we textured the paths for added grip. The next day, we returned to saw cut control joints in the shed slab. This step is crucial for mitigating uncontrolled cracking.
Completing the Apron Areas
Stage two began with prepping the apron areas. We laid down plastic Forticon, reinforcing, and formwork. Another early morning saw us supplying concrete before the heat set in. We were determined to keep the quality high throughout the project.
After pouring, we returned the next day to saw cut and tidy up the site.
Maintaining Quality Control
We completed the job in a series of pours. This approach allowed us to maintain quality control throughout the project. Each step was carefully monitored to ensure the best results.
Client Satisfaction
The client was thrilled with the outcome. The job looked fantastic, and we felt proud of our work.
