Spoon Drain Construction - Adelaide Training & Employment Centre
Over the past year or so, we have been carrying out remedial concrete work at ATEC on Grand Junction Road, Ottoway. The construction of the spoon drain was the final stage of this process and was essential as heavy rain would cause flooding in the training workshop carpark. We also reinstated an existing access ramp.
We started by cutting and removing the redundant bitumen and transporting it to Resource Co Wingfield. Additionally, we cut and removed the concrete from an existing ramp located where the new drain was planned and dumped the redundant concrete.
We then excavated the area to suit 150mm concrete thickness with a small amount of fall. As there was only minimal fall from one end of the spoon to the other, it was essential all our levels were spot on.
We installed forticon plastic and mesh reinforcing supplied by Adamis Sand & Metal. We then poured the concrete which was supplied by Adbri. Stage one of the pour was complete - just in time too as the rain came the netxt day and our spoon drain got put to the test... and it passed!
Stage 2 was completion of the ramp. We set up our formwork, plastic and mesh ready for concrete. Rain was forecast but our trusty gazebo kept us and the job dry. We poured the ramp and all went well.
We recicved positive feedback from the staff at ATEC indicating that the spoon drain achicved its intended outcome perfectly!
